Mumbai Police have recorded the statement of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan regarding the stabbing incident at his Bandra residence by a Bangladeshi national last week, officials confirmed on Friday.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Choudhary stated that Saif’s statement was recorded at his residence, ‘Satguru Sharan,’ on Thursday. “Earlier, Kareena Kapoor’s statement was also recorded by Bandra Police,” he added.

Last week, Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder, later identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, who entered the actor’s home with the intent to commit theft. During a violent confrontation, Saif sustained stab wounds to his thoracic spine and other parts of his body. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for immediate medical attention following the attack.

Mumbai Police discovered several fingerprints belonging to the accused at Saif’s residence. The prints were found on the building’s stairs, the toilet door, and the door handle of the actor’s son Jeh’s room.

Officials revealed that Shehzad had attempted to break into three other homes before entering Saif’s residence. They believe the fingerprints will play a critical role in building the case against him.

The police registered a case under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). The accused was apprehended at Hiranandani Estate in Thane while allegedly attempting to flee to his native village in Bangladesh.

Shehzad was presented in the Bandra Holiday Court on Sunday, where he was remanded to five days of police custody.

Shehzad’s lawyer, Sandeep Shekhane, denied the police’s allegations, claiming that no proper investigation had been conducted. He also disputed the claim that Shehzad was a Bangladeshi national.

“A police custody for five days has been granted. The court has asked the police to submit a report within five days. The police have no proof that he is a Bangladeshi. They said he came here six months ago, but he has been living here for over seven years. His family resides in Mumbai. This is a clear violation of Section 43A. No proper investigation has been done,” Shekhane told reporters.

Saif Ali Khan underwent surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged on Tuesday. After returning to his Bandra residence, the actor was seen waving to the media, indicating that he is on the path to recovery.

The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on forensic evidence and witness testimonies to build their case against Shehzad.
